The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Pat Cummins bowling

Pat Cummins has secured 309 Test scalps in 71 Test matches with an impressive average.

Australia's chair of selectors the selector has stated that skipper Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

Speculation had been growing that the veteran bowler might be unavailable due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from team management suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on 21 November in Western Australia.

He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and was "optimistic" about the prospects of being involved.

"We're aware that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations involved, aside from the physical problem, but other factors as well," the selector added.

"We're encouraged. We firmly believe that he will feature a major part. With luck from the opening match. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."

Injury History

Cummins was ruled out Australia's limited-overs series against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a lower back issue.

He has a history of recurring issues, with flare-ups in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 causing him to miss three Australian summers in four years.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to make the squad for the contest.

He mentioned that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his recovery but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the first Test.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will assume leadership.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from the national team for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the initial game as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the initial matches in any case. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, if it causes any delay for another day, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
